Who Regulates Who?

Yellow are suppliers of information, Blue is legislation, Dark Green are regulators and Light Green are verifiers

The above chart shows the complex way in which regulation of the scheme has been set up. Each individual state has its own legislation, Competent Authorities and Accreditation Bodies, so this chart is an over-simplification to show how it tends to work in practice, rather than being a legally defined structure.

The most important point to note on the chart is that there is no line of responsibility between the Verification Bodies and the Competent Authorities. While they do communicate and work with the Competent Authorities, their liability is always to you, the Operator.
